2011 wrx wheels
so im rather disappointed with a few things about the wrx. the tires SUCK. the way i see it, i have a couple options.
i feel like upgrading the tires would be a waste on the stock 16x6.5 wheels as i would probably upgrade wheels at some point.
keep shitty tires for the rest of the season and just fix stuff.
orrr, i did find some 17x8 stock wrx wheels with stock tires for $500. maybe ill get some wheels with decent tires to get me threw the year. this would put me in stx...but its the difference of sucking in stx due to not being setup and enjoying the tires more or suck in awd street tire and being pissed at tires.
basically mod now or mod in a few months when i could have money saved up to do it as a package thing....i will be stx next year for sure

500 i think is a good price, so i doubt this exact set will last

That's a good buy in comparison of spending 1200 for the setup you prob want to get. I bet you can sell those later for around that anyways.

ive been searching for 17x8 on forums and craigslist for a while now.
i found a set of new 2012 wrx tires locally. he is asking 675.
what would you guys offer? ive offerd 550 so far and a variety of trades
would these be worth $600? im looking for something decent to last some time, then roll starspecs. wrx wheels arnt the lightest. but should be better then a rota in the same price range
thoughts?

Re: 2011 wrx wheels
5x100 def limits possibilities... personally i would wait to get something lighter and or something you like more. There are plenty of budget light rims out there on the forums you just have to keep an eye out.
Re: 2011 wrx wheels
I would also wait for something lighter. As Drew said, 5x100 opens up a lot of options. 2012 WRX wheels are 20+lbs so you are in effect adding quite a bit of unsprung weight for the bigger contact patch.
Somewhere I read it is like 1lb=4lb for unsprung weight. So going from ~17lbs to ~20lbs is adding 12lbs of unsprung weigh to each wheel. So it will probably drastically change where you are hitting in the gears.
Personally I think I would go with the 2004 BBS and sacrifice the .5" in width. You are still gaining an inch in both diameter and width all the while still losing about a pound per wheel.
FYI: Rota Torque's in 17x8 weigh roughly 20lbs.

Re: 2011 wrx wheels
I have seen people lose a second off their time (drag) just by switching to Rotas from OEM BBS Evo wheels.
Since Autocross is longer than 13 seconds, I would assume wheels would play a greater roll.
I would also get measurements of the rim+tire and compare both for more of a fair comparison.

5x100 limits possibilities. 5x114 has many more options. Also depends on the offset you want.
