hey camera spec nerds!
my sister in law is buying a new camera for a creepy side job she is going to do.
she is trying to sell me her old camera and shit. seems like she is asking too much.
one day me and my wife will get a dslr, we dont need much and probably wont need much in the foreseeable future.
What they have is a Nikon d3100 which has been taken care of as far as I know. im still trying to get a spec list of all the extras.
camera any good? what would be a good used price on just the body and stock lens?
other cameras better for less? im in no hurry to buy anything but if this is too good to pass up i want to know

Most here are partial to canon products but i hear decent things about the nikons... for pics that you guys would take it would be just fine. Most new cameras are way smarter than the users now too.
I paid 1045.65 for my Canon T2i, 18-135 EF-s lens, 530EX flash, canon hood, and canon uv filter.
that was 2 years ago or so too. at the time it was a decent price.

i wouldn't pay over 250-300 for the d1500 cuz you can get one new for 320 bucks
Re: hey camera spec nerds!
What lens? 18-55?
Brand new price is 470 on amazon. i dont know...maybe 350 for it?

meah its used and 350 is still too much considering is only a minor amount lower than new.... 470 is high you can piece the body and the lens together for 400...320 for the body and 80 for the lens.
Edit: lens might be more like 100 new 80 refurbished. so yeah...
Re: hey camera spec nerds!
drew, where are you finding these prices?

Re: hey camera spec nerds!
what would you kids recommend as a good entry level dslr?
this would primarily be used by the wife in a non professionally setting

canon rebel.
-t2i,
-t3i(t2i with a flippy screen)
-t4i(touch screen interface, better autofocus/Autoexposure, frame rate)
if you go canon, you can steal shit from me, or drew, or dylan(i am offering up their goods for you as well)

Re: hey camera spec nerds!
you seriously couldn't go wrong with either. Go play with them, see which setup and controls work better for you.
either a rebel, or the nikons d3200 (or wait for the d5200) are the entry levels.
The only reason i suggested canon is that you know other people with canons and could trade or borrow gear.

i still vote canon. Most people that even use there cameras for pro use go canon.
not all but everyone i know has canon.
Like pat said you can always borrow our stuff and see if you want it or like it too.
I have the T2i and I think it is great for what I use it for.
