Re: Hello
I currently drive a 2000 Civic ex, it is not very entertaining to drive. I am attempting to convince my wife that an investment of 20ish thousand dollars in a single vehicle is wise.
I have a question myself: If you have about 20k to buy a car with do you choose a low millage WRX or a higher millage STI? I personally lead towards the STI if for no other reason than the gearbox, but this will be my daily driver and I need to ensure it is reliable.

Re: Hello
Most will say sti here. I love my wrx based on cost alone. Sti is better obviously but to you is it worth the cost. I'm married and have a house...shit be expensive!
Keep in mind, my wrx isnt a daily driver and I couldn't justify spending too much on a car I don't drive lots

Re: Hello
There are more differences between WRX and STi than most people know about. The lower control arms are weaker in the WRX for example. Actually had one pop off while on the dyno because bushing was weak or something.

I don't think anyone ever bought a sti over wrx because of a control arm.

Re: Hello
The gearbox is my major concern, also I know that people buy STIs to drive them, which scares me for buying one used.

Re: Hello
as long as the previous owner kept up with the maintenance and the mod list, if any, isnt to extensive i wouldnt worry to much. drew just recently acquired an 05 sti and seems to be in good condtiton. sold my 07 sti with 30k miles of driving pleasure (drag, road race, stoplight challenges ). ran into the new owner at an autocross event and he said it is still running strong and still driving the shit out of it. just get a ppi done and should be good. hi and welcome by the way.

There aren't many posts by mike I don't rep. Many are too worried about if it was beaten on....we are all going to beat the piss out of it anyway. If it drives strong, the price is right, and it makes you happy....doooo it!

That was too cool/coincidental.

Re: Hello
I'm still looking and still as conflicted as ever. New or newish wrx? Older sti? Focus st(thanks to pat forcing me into a test ride) BMW 335? First world problems are the worst!

Re: Hello
I like the focus but did 2 years of fwd with torque and it's dumb.
If I was looking I'd probably go wrx...unless you have lots of money sitting around

Get a mustang GT way better value for the money hands down! This is where pat tries to argue this fact.... This time I am serious and can fight back

Re: Hello
Before you buy anything, make sure to have Drew come inspect and measure the hood length -- he has very scientific methods.

Haven't I? I do recall owning 4 different dodges and 3 of which being different models pretty loyal there... also still rocking an SRT licence place on my econo car
I have always liked subarus.... I dont get the crazy hype after owning one tho. I still like the car it does things well just doesnt get me going i guess.

what does owning far too many dodges have to do with being loyal to subaru fanboyism?
i love me some subaru. I do like other cars but all around its hard to beat. awesome in snow, decent on gas, not overly expensive for parts with my boomba loyalty card, and i like the way they look. i missed the hell out of AWD when I had the ms3. RWD is much better then FWD and dont get me wrong, if i was rich i would have both.
drew and I have a very different ideas on whats best. i would rather have a 250whp awd wrx with handling in mind then a heavy 700 hp RWD tank.

Re: Hello
4 doors is a must, AWD is an advantage as I will likely be spending some miles in the snow.
Price is...a question for me still, realistically I can afford a car in the 19-25k range. If the car were to come in lower than that I could focus on something more for "fun", in the 20ish range it will be the one expensive car I own and so will pull duty as the family car.

Re: Hello
drivetrain is number one? good bye focus lol
ill be a subaru pusher to the end. ive had 2 and my wife has had 2. they have been very reliable and most issues have been my fault. i guess they eat some oil but it doesnt seem as bad as my audi did.
gas mileage isnt the best but much better then anything drew wants lol.
has the space for even my 65 pound and growing puppy. insurance is better on the wrx then the sti obviously
plenty of parts....just call boomba racing.
i dont think im the most reliable source but me and my wife love our subarus

Re: Hello
False most of what i want gets better mpg than the STI does.
i wouldent call a 2013 gt500 a tank....
I pay less in insurance on my STI than i did on my 300C srt8
I was saying i am loyal to SRT cars.
I like suabru I just only like a few things about them tho.
Over all its a good car and i would also recomend it but I like torque and rwd is way more fun day to day than the few times fun in the snow comes around. I have not had any issues with any of my cars on snow tires.

Re: Hello
2013 mustang GT gets essentially the same mpg as the STI. but also costs way more thus getting hte sti..
s2000 gets better but gets its seats stolen every 1000 miles so that in turn costs more haha
The reason I got the STI is because of gas mileage in comparison to cost. But if we are doing the "what I would consider in the sameish price range as the sti that gets better MPG" game lets see...
Acura NSX
E36 M3
330Ci
350Z
s2000
genesis
is300
mx-5
evo
sky redline
solstice gxp
wrx
legacy
mr2
Cars that where on the table but ruled out because of mpg.
Audi S4
Mustang older
vette (close one gets better highway mpg)
viper haha at one point it was on the table then you guys made me drink lol
rx-8
r32
So you can see that there where may cars to choose from that got better MPG but i chose the STI based on an all around package and only for a slight increase on cost compared to some. That and an 05 sti is an awesome car but I still dont get the hype by SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO many people. Yeah its good but to say dream car (in my opinion) is setting the bar too low.
There are all wheel drive porsche out there that are getting close to the sti price that i would rather have. shit eventually the r8 will come down in price, the gt-r is already down in price, a TT RS is a sick ride that will come down in price, Gallardo, and thats just AWD cars.
This i thought was kind of funny that there are no subarus on here...http://www.autobytel.com/sports-cars/car-buying-guides/10-of-the-most-compelling-japanese-sports-cars-113397/
Any who I guess Long story longer is I like and Love the STI but it has not once been like wow, or whoa, or yippy, or YES!, or that was awesome. It is just a car and it just does things well but thats what makes it boring for me.

Reliability This works up here beucase maintence cost is way lower
Oil Consumption If you want it a subaru is the way to go lol
Engine Displacement I am assuming since this is above MPG that larger is better?
Gas Mileage what sort of range you looking for and what driving do you do?
Car Cost AWD and Suabru always cost more
Insurance Cost Mine went down with an STI compared to 300C
Maintenance Costs AWD maybe more costs down the road but this is close to the bottom
Space(needs to be able to carry two people and a dog...past that) 2 door ranger? haha I am asuming that is off the table
Availability of Aftermarket Parts Dont plan to mod much?
Racing This needs to be moved up lol
Options/Features We have different tastes in cars clearly
LuxurySo bench seats and a crackly radio? lol
