What class should I strive for?

Post by Tamadx on August 20th 2012, 7:33 pm

Currently STU is rough stuff but the pax time isnt bad for the overall score. As of right now i am in stu and can add some camber adjustment to most likely give me a little edge i need. Ideally i think some camber up front and a stiffer bar in the back might give me some good times. Or be way to darty in the back..

ASP has really no one in it but it is still classed in awd street tire which with those B stock cars having a great pax time tend to be hard to beat. Now on the other hand asp gives you much more room for increase in suspension mods and power output. I wouldnt really be doing any mods that would automatically put me in ASP but i can class my self there for more of a chance to take a trophy in AWD street tire.

B Stock has a few good contenders in it but a lot of times you're more likely to trophy in awd street tire. I would need to get rid of my springs and get new tires on my stock rims to really do this.

What do you think? I can argue past numbers all day its just too hard to decide lol

Notes:

225/45/17 z1 = 144/Tire
245/45/17 z1 = 181/Tire Special
245/45/17 v12 = 114/Tire

Camber plates rce 500ish, gteck 440, others 400?
bolts 25-65

rear bar? 150-215

if you dont want to spend a bunch of money on the car and you care about how competitive you are, go to bstock. thats the way I would go.

bsp you will want to spend money to play. stu you will need to deal with the shit.

BS is one of the more expensive routes actually lol.

~ 600 for star specs on stock rims
~ 500 for regular summer tires to go on the ssr's
~ 40 bucks to possibly transfer winter tires to a different set of rims if they fit.
~75-100 for allignment
Then the time and such to go back to stock springs which isnt bad but its something else.
ALSO! the things that are illegal on my car in B stock..
Seats, and front lip.
so about 1200 or so to go BS

to be competitive in awd street tires or ASP in this case
~750 for star specs on ssr's
~500 for camber plates and such to adjust for autoX and daily
~75-100 for alignment
What ever it costs for a set of A and P letters from K&M
And i can sell my winters for 300-400 bucks which helps cover suspension bits and in turn makes this route cheaper than going B stock.

This would be the same things i would do for STU too. I am also looking into costs overall of running star specs as my daily tire.
the star specs would last longer on the stock rims being switched out when need be. BUT then again thats an extra cost in it self.

A guy over at CSC brought up a good point. Why go into B stock when you are always going to be wanting to go faster and should put your self in a harder class to push your self to beat the competition that way.

Over all STU will place me better in the PAX standings than ASP but while in ASP I might trophy that class so its more of a feel good kind of thing...

I am going with the Blacks when I have the funding.

You can get Whiteline ComCs ($215 retail) for a lot cheaper than RCE camber plates ($500 retail). Or, you could just get the camber bolts and still get to -2.5 in the front (which is what you want -2.5 to -3). For the cost of the RCE's you could get ComCs and Subaru Group N Rear Mounts ($280 retail -- not sure what they cost with SCCA discount)

If we were to start shooting in ASP, there would be enough competitors for it to be its own class and not with AWD Street Tire, I think the most recent event just didn't have enough contenders to make it it's own class -- I could be completely wrong.

Fudge BS. You would have to ditch so much, and have to find/buy so much stock stuff.

CN: Stay STU, and compete with me until we really start to become competitive. If we feel like we're getting screwed because of cheaters we can move to ASP. Get your car tuned, and just have them make multiple maps (STU/ASP/Street).

all street tire A-H classes regardless of prepared or not will be put in the street tire class unless you run r comps.

Street touring classes will always be bunched together unless there is only one person then they will be put in SM as what i was told. A-H classes are always bunched together for street tires because its not fair competition with r-comp guys.

BS only things i have to ditch are springs and rims.

STU is best for PAX and i think thats what i sort of shoot for in the total for the year. but winning in ASP or being close does drive me to do better. Basically my car will be prepped for STU but i dont see why you cant flip to ASP when registering and seeing who is all there. Its only a down side for the person running in ASP because the PAX is worse.

OH!! and i dislike crash bolts. I hated them on my neon and really dont want to use them on the STI unless I need to for clearance issues with a camber plate. I need to be able to go back to stock camber for my daily driving.

Crash bolts can come loose (rarely) and throw off your alignment.

Springs, struts, and rims. I don't even know if you have to ditch rims. Paul Miyhalov (batman STi) is running some Enkeis with big rubber on them and he is in BS.

I am unfamiliar with the term crash bolts (but I'm assuming that i just another name for the camber bolts). I have heard of them coming undone, even happened to one guy on the highway Shocked

What are your feelings on the ComCs?

Yeah crash bolts are camber bolts. if installed correctly shouldnt have a problem. I just cant run around wit that neg camber for my daily driving.

the struts can stay in B stock. the rims are too wide. the springs are too JDM lol

I cant find the white line camber plates
